Svankmajer is an artist of many mediums as can be seen at his website. His style always indulges in the surreal and unusual. He's made dozens of films, most if not all incorporate live action alongside stop motion to create a peculiar sense of reality. He's been credited as being an influence on Tim Burton, The Quay Brothers, Terry Gilliam and many other creative individuals, myself included. If you aren't familiar with his films I would recommend Alice, Little Otik and Conspirators of Pleasure. And be sure to check out the Svankmajer section at the "Animation Of Heaven And Hell" website.
